What might I do with my one short, wild and wondrous life?...

    Create

    Creating three-dimensional artwork

seems to be my way home.

Ideas arrive… alighting with a quiet flutter of feather,

or rising from a deep boundless ocean.

Each with its essence, comes beckoning.

As an artist, the best I can offer,

is to go completely out of my mind.

To let the idea dream me, dissolve me, dope me…

Until, with full breath, I commit.

My hope is to give beauteous form to fluid unifying patterns of consciousness - archetypes.

That they may serve to awaken, to guide, to shepherd us to the heart, and to the whole.

    May it be…

    Totemic, Equine and Land Artwork

    TOTEMIC Artwork

    Look in Gallery below

A 'totem' is an object or animal that is seen to be sacred - it's significance 'felt' more than rationalised - sensed in a highly personal, inner way.

When art is imbued with this 'totemic essence', it seems to speak directly to the deepest part of us.

Viewers feel an almost instant shift in state, an elevation, an expansion.

Strangely, in creating these totemic artworks, I often feel servant to something much greater than myself - to an idea that seeks to be made visible, and so it takes me over.

    EQUINE Artwork

    Look in Gallery below

This series is inspired by the irresistible beauty of equus, and a deep love for the spirit of this noble creature. I seek to capture its dynamic grace, majestic power and gentle humility. Working with metal - welding, twisting, tinting -

I aim to make this cold medium become warm; to be both precise and fluid, to take the viewer into a vision that is fully alive. Through the cast work, I hope to create a beautious form: anatomical perfection enrapt in harmonious curves.

The musical theme needs no explanation - equus simply is

the full suite of musical rapture.

    Project Ánimo

    LAND ART

    Launching 2023

Project Ánimo began in a blazing blue afternoon riding through the Andes of Patagonia.

The form of a dynamic wild horse burst from a hill as a vision. Like the spirit of life itself, he called from another world.

And so the land art series of Project Ánimo was born and will launch the first of an iconic series of land art works in 2023.

Sculpture by the Sea 2005 Signature Prize

    Beginnings

Sculpture by the Sea up, up and away...

I started my vocational life in the sciences, in anatomy labs surrounded by cadavers and formaldehyde. Moving sideways I entered the world of natural medicine as a lecturer and clinician. After studying performing arts I took my skills to the corporate arena, running large group events and coaching one:one as a 'personal development' consultant, Somewhere in my mind I knew that 'sculpture' was on my life path so I began by dabbling in clay works. However it wasn't till 2005, after winning the Signature Prize at Sculpture by the Sea for 'Higher Life', that I had the confidence to believe that I had something to offer as an artist.

    And so the journey began...

    Approach

    For beauty & truth...

My artwork is an attempt to create beauty as a reflection of higher principles. It is hoped that through the presence of these art forms, a viewer can experience a broader, deeper, truer sense of self.

Where ideas are sourced remains ultimately a mystery, however for my part, they seem impelled from within by a source way beyond. Once the offer is made, it is then for the artist to 'take up the baton', and fathom the way to a practical realisation.

    Methods & Mediums

    Ideation to realisation...

My first sculptural works were in fired clay. As much as I now work in more complex mediums, nothing can replicate the earthy, organic experience of hands kneading, rolling, twisting, carving soft yielding clay. Nor the time honored ritual of committing the work to the fire of the kiln.

However once armatures are discovered, a host of new possibilities burst into mind as the downward pull of gravity can now be overcome. This is the world of cast work, of molds, plasters and bronzes, of shining patinas and polishes,

Next step... metal fabrication: riveting, welding, oxidising... heavy boots and safety goggles. Turning the cold glare of metal into warmth and aliveness.

    The idea dictates the medium.

Whatever the choice, my goal is to bring light, and so life to the work...

    to make static appear dynamic,

and so birth the essence of an idea into a living presence.

  • Commissioning Artwork

    Bringing your dream to life

As much as I'm keen for patronage for the many artistic ideas that I have waiting in the wings,

I'm equally thrilled to work with you to hone a design that speaks of you and to you..

The nub is in unearthing your vision, and translating it into a rapturous form in three dimensions.

This is the creative journey - exhilarating and wild. A divine madness that for a time overruns you.

The result? An artwork that is totally unique - the only one of it's kind on our blue planet.

And beyond even that, is the essence of the art itself, which like a beloved friend,

travels with you through the crests and troughs of life bringing both comfort and joy.

Wherever you are on the globe, if beauty is what you seek, do be in touch...
